`Effie Trinket. Who do you think is Effie Trinket? Probably you’re going to say, she’s embodying the Capitol in the movie Hunger Games. Maybe, you’ll tell me, she’s the freak who puts on too much make up and wears weird clothes. Others may say, she’s the escort of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark and the person who really gets into Haymitch Abernathy’s nerves. But other than that, behind those ridiculous clothes and make up, behind the preppy personality, who really is Effie Trinket?

                As I go through the pages of the Hunger Games trilogy, I slowly see the real Effie. Probably, what I’m going to say is not stated there, but this is from my own understanding. Those clothes that she wears, the wig that hides the real color of her hair and the make up that covers her true beauty, are what I think, the ones who make up the “ Capitol Effie .“

                The “ Capitol Effie “ is the Effie who is selfish, who is so naïve of the Capitol’s wrongdoings, and the Effie who loves her work as the one who reaps the names of the children whom she knows will soon die in the arena. The “ Capitol Effie “ is the Effie we see in the movie. But the books made me analyze things. The books made me analyze the other side of Effie Trinket.

                Put yourself in her shoes. She’s the one who reaps children and put them to danger. She’s the one who escorts them to their death. If you’re in her place, are you happy of your work? Do you think she’s happy? Well, I don’t. In my perception, the preppy attitude hides her sorrows and her fears. She isn’t happy killing the children. But what choice does she have. It’s her job. Maybe she dreamt about having her work, but it was before she knew exactly what she’s about to do. The Capitol brainwashed their citizens. And we all know Effie is from the Capitol.

                I don’t know her history. I don’t know how she was brought up. But, when she knew about her job, when she realized how awful her work is, she probably cried. Effie is so soft. She is easily hurt. Maybe she’s already numb of Haymitch’s insults, but I feel that she also feels. Just like other people, she hides her true feelings. She needs to hide it, because if she let it show, it would be the cause of her death.

                Katniss and Peeta probably thought that Effie is just their escort, but what I saw is Effie did everything in her power to help them win. She put all her effort in them not just because it is her job but also because she wanted them to stay alive. But of course, she provided a little space between them, because if I was in her place, I would also do the same. I don’t want to get too attached to the tributes because of the fact that it would just kill me if they die. I’m sure this was also what she felt.

                Effie Trinket, the escort. That is what she is, but that’s not who is. She’s more than that. She’s more than a slave. She’s more than a part of the games. She’s a woman. She’s a person, who also gets hurt, who also loves and who also feels. That’s who Effie Trinket is. That is Effie Trinket behind the scenes.

This would probably my first post here in tumblr. Forgive me… I don’t know anything yet here… but I just wanna share my feelings about the movie Man On A Ledge… Goodness!!! IT WAS AMAZING! gosh… Elizabeth Banks is the best. I’m not wrong on idolizing her. Gosh. I hope she reads this. I really hope I could meet her one day and tell her how good she is. She’s … one of a kind.
